Tutor David Thomas
How to to be a Freelance is a one day workshop for those who are yet to venture into the world of self-employment or for those who have just started out. It will offer a guidance on how freelances can organise themselves to think like a business. The course will tackle the importance of good record keeping as well as how to maintain a stress-free balance between working time and non-working time. As well as tips on dealing with potential clients and setting up meetings.
The approach is to make the subject accessible, enjoyable, and inspirational, with plenty of interaction and practical tips. Trainees will have access to a secure website after the workshop to enable them to download templates and tip sheets.
At the end of the day participants will be able to:
- Understand the importance of good organisational skills
- Understand the two ways that freelances are paid and the implications for record keeping
- Understand how to focus their offer, and find relevant clients
- Know how to get written agreements and to chase late payers
- Draw up a plan which focuses them in a business like way and helps them not run out of cash
Comments from David’s last course:
“Clearly presented by a well-informed and engaging tutor, it was stimulating and very constructive.” Steve Jones, Vice Chair, Cardiff & SE Wales Branch.
“David Thomas is an intelligent, thoughtful and likeable trainer who got the group talking and networking without that awful patronising ‘let’s go round the room and get everyone to say something interesting about themselves’ tactic, which I absolutely hate!” Claire Gardiner, Freelance Journalist
Best free day’s training I have ever had – and would happily have paid for it! Jenny Sims, Freelance Journalist
