Former Tindle Editors Launch New Hyperlocal Websites in Wales
Two former editors of Tindle Newspapers’ Brecon & Radnor Express are heading up two new hyperlocal websites in the Welsh county of Powys.
MyTown Media, the company behind the MyWelshpool and MyNewtown websites in Wales, will today launch two new sites called MyRadnor and MyBrecon.
Co-founder David Williams said the company will now be able to provide near blanket coverage in the county.
Dave Meacham will head up the Brecon operation and Mike Sivier will front the Radnor site.
Williams said the company’s expansion plans were accelerated after it won support from Nesta, the UK Innovation Foundation, which awarded grants to 10 schemes with the aim of kickstarting hyperlocal media innovation in the UK.
“The funds have enabled us to set up the new sites along with developing location-aware apps on both Android and iOS,” said Williams.
“This will allow geographically-relevant content to be viewed on mobile phones.
“We will continue to work around the clock to deliver the latest news and sport… and of course it will always be delivered for free.”
Williams believes the popularity of Twitter and Facebook locally has contributed to the growth of MyTown Media.
