How can journalists adequately report today’s many complex stories involving religion? Are we well equipped to cover the range of beliefs and multiple interactions within global culture as well as on our own doorstep? And are we sufficiently objective about how our own belief systems, secular or otherwise, may affect our engagement with those of others?
If we are successful in our bid for more funding we plan to hold a workshop to improve our skills in reporting on religion’s impact on the world and at home. Engagement with Faith members from Wales will be a valuable part of this day.
In this context the Visit My Mosque project may be of interest:
#VisitMyMosque day is a national initiative facilitated by The Muslim Council of Britain, where mosques across Britain organise open days, inviting in their neighbours for tea, cakes and an insight into the day-to-day goings on of a busy Muslim centre of worship. Go to the Visit My Mosque page on the Muslim Council of Britain website for videos, information on future Visit My Mosque days and to find the articipating mosques in Wales.
